The focusing system on LPL 4x5 enlargers works by friction, the focus knobs driving the right side focus rod. With heavy use the rod may become worn in one area, resulting in the focusing adjustment becoming loose in that area. The short term fix is to rotate the focus rod to a fresh unworn area. Long term, you'll need to replace the rod.
